E/S 5 ORIGINAL
Earthstone Original has been developed as a professional quality white clay with a wide maturing range and a broad range of applications. It is extremely resistant to warping, cracking and thermal shock. It is therefore particularly suitable for salt-glazing and reduction firing. This clay is highly regarded by potters all over the U.K. The addition of a small proportion of carefully graded and blended molochite means that you can throw large or wide pieces with ease, while still giving excellent results in slab building, press moulding and modelling. Indeed, this clay is probably the most versatile in the Earthstone range, and the most popular. Earthstone Original fires at 1180°C - 1280°C. |

E/S 20 SMOOTH TEXTURED
| Earthstone Smooth Textured body is a particularly versatile clay, suitable for modelling, handbuilding and large thrown forms. Carefully graded and blended molochite gives this clay superb handling qualities. This clay is highly recommended for raku, salt-firing and reduction - in fact, any application you can think of! We do not use any cheap materials like silica sand, so this clay has low, uniform thermal expansion and good resistance to warping, cracking and thermal shock. For professional ceramic sculptors and throwers, students and teachers, this clay will prove to be of great interest. Earthstone Smooth Textured fires at 1180° - 1300°C. |

E/S 40 HANDBUILDING
Earthstone Handbuilding body is a white stoneware / raku body with exceptional handling properties. Carefully graded and blended molochite gives excellent keying properties, low shrinkage and good warp resistance. This clay is ideal for large sculptural and handbuilding pieces, hand made tiles, ceramic murals etc. and its whiteness means it gives excellent colour response, making it a great clay for raku, salt-firing and reduction. Earthstone Handbuilding body gives great versatility and value for money. Whether you are a professional ceramic sculptor, student or teacher, this clay will allow you to produce work more quickly and spontaneously, with fewer losses. Earthstone Handbuilding fires at 1200°C - 1300°C. |
E/S 50 CRANK
Earthstone Crank is an open textured, coarsely grogged clay which retains tremendous plasticity. Where other crank clays are prepared by pan milling, which leaves them open to lime contamination, Earthstone Crank is slip-housed to reduce the possibility of lime popping and efflorescence. The grog is carefully graded and blended to give excellent keying properties. The use of top quality ingredients and painstaking production methods results in an excellent handbuilding clay, with good warp resistance, low shrinkage and excellent green and fired strength. Earthstone Crank fires at 1200°C - 1300°C and gives a toasted buff in oxidation and a rich, warm, speckled orange buff under reduction. It is also suitable for raku firing. |
E/S 60 SMOOTH TEXTURED CRANK
Earthstone Smooth Textured Crank is ideal for sculptors and hand builders who require a smoother surface texture than standard crank, but still expect excellent green strength and warp resistance. Where other crank clays are prepared by pan milling, leaving them open to lime contamination, Earthstone Smooth Textured Crank is slip-housed to reduce the possibility of lime popping and efflorescence. The grog is carefully graded and blended to give excellent keying properties. We use the same high quality ingredients as in our original crank, but this clay will allow the sculptor to achieve a smoother surface, and is also very responsive to applied textures, sprigs, stamps etc. Earthstone Smooth Textured Crank fires at 1200°C-1300°C and gives a toasted buff in oxidation and a rich, warm, speckled orange buff under reduction. It is also suitable for raku firing. |
E/S 65 TERRACOTTA CRANK
Earthstone Terracotta Crank allows you to create large sculptural pieces without the risk of lime popping, commonly associated with grogged reds. A beautifully textured, richly coloured clay, Earthstone Terracotta Crank combines the warmth and excellent working properties of red clay with the strength of a crank, resulting in an exceptional building body that is ideal for all types of handbuilding processes. Earthstone Terracotta Crank fires from 1080°C-1220°C and like all Earthstone clays is exceptionally warp and crack resistant |
E/S 70 ARCHITECTURAL BODY
This clay will be of interest to anyone producing architectural ceramics - handmade tiles, relief panels, ceramic murals or restoration work. It offers extremely low shrinkage, only 6% from plastic to 1260°C! This effectively means that you make your tile sections to cover the actual area required, instead of having to worry about shrinkage calculations. The 6% shrinkage allows just sufficient space for grouting. Architectural body fires off white, and so will offer excellent colour response. It is completely frost proof with excellent thermal resistance. We are sure that you will find that this clay gives you a real advantage when constructing large tile projects. It is extremely resistant to warping and cracking and fires 1240°C - 1300°C. |
